Meghan Markle’s return to Instagram has been branded “ridiculous” and another “money making exercise” by the Sussexes, following her debut on a new solo account.
Speaking to GB News, Former Royal Correspondent at The Sun Charles Rae expressed bewilderment at the Duchess of Sussex’s New Year’s Day post, saying: “I honestly haven’t got a clue what she’s doing now.
“I would have thought we should have had the theme tune from Jaws as she was running down to the water there.”
The video shared on social media was filmed by Prince Harry near their Montecito home, and has racked up almost four million likes since being posted on New Year’s Day.

In the clip, the duchess is seen running barefoot toward the waves, stopping to trace “2025” in the sand before giggling and jogging away.
Reacting to the post, Rae highlighted what he sees as hypocrisy in the her social media return.
“They [Harry and Meghan] came off social media because they were getting unparalleled abuse,” Rae noted.
He added: “They’ve spent the last few years complaining about social media. Harry spent a lot of time saying spiteful things, nasty things about Facebook, which is owned by Meta, which also owns Instagram. So I don’t quite understand where they’re coming from.”

Criticising the post, Rae told GB News: “This post is ridiculous. She’s had this this dormant Instagram account for two or three years, and there’s been hints before that it was going to come out, and do something sensational.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
“If this is the sensational bit, then I’m not going to be losing any sleep checking Instagram.”
Rae also questioned Markle’s “interesting” decision to disable comments on her Instagram post.
“It’s interesting though that she’s actually switched off all the comments on this one – clearly she doesn’t want to have anybody on there saying anything nasty or anything good about it,” he told GB News.
Noting the potential for the social media account to create financial benefits for the Sussex couple, Rae suggested that the move is “another money making exercise” for Harry and Meghan.

He explained: “Certain influencers earn an awful lot of money from using Instagram. Talking about figures, whether this is true, it’s something like £790,000 that she could earn per post.
“It’s another moneymaking exercise by them, and if they make money, fine. If they don’t, well, it’ll be another failure.”
Recalling Meghan’s previous Instagram presence with her lifestyle blog, The Tig, Rae concluded that this new account could suggest this is the path the duchess wishes to return to.
He said: “I think it’s possible that that’s what she wants to do. How on earth did she get Meghan handle? It’s a mystery. Whoever the original Meghan was would be daft not to have seen a payday coming, and best of luck to them.”
