Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s professional separation has been branded a “smart move” by a royal commentator, as the couple are set for a U-turn.

Following their departure from royal life, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for interviews and docuseries about their time as members of the Firm, leading to criticism that they were causing a rift within the monarchy.

However, the year 2024 was a U-turn for the couple, with Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, embarking on solo appearances to focus on their individual aspirations, and not discussing the ongoing royal rift.

A friend of the Sussexes previously told People: “It’s clear that a twin-track approach is evolving. The Duke and Duchess have now hit their stride as individuals – not just as a couple.

“The Duke appears focused on his patronage work, and the Duchess focused on her entrepreneurial track.”

A royal commentator shared his insights on Prince Harry and Meghan’s professional separation, suggesting the move has proved beneficial for the couple’s public image.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, Gareth Russell addressed the challenges facing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s PR strategy.

“It’s hard to know what is good, PR-wise, for the Sussexes at the moment,” Russell said.

The royal commentator emphasised that moving away from their previous interview-focused approach could be advantageous for the couple.

“Anything that doesn’t involve interviews like they did in the past is a good move in terms of more separate events,” Russell told GB News.

He suggested that steering clear of controversy and avoiding a repeat of their recent years’ strategy would be beneficial.

“Anything that keeps them away from controversy, or keeps them away from seeming like a repeat of what they were doing for the last couple of years, is a smart move,” he noted.

Russell highlighted how the professional separation enables both Harry and Meghan to pursue their individual interests.

“It does allow them both to focus on what they each seem to be interested in,” the royal commentator explained.

This strategic move appears to provide the couple with opportunities to develop their separate professional paths.

Russell acknowledged that the couple’s separate appearances have sparked public discussion about their time together.

“It obviously has led to some speculation about how much they’re spending together,” he said.

However, the royal commentator dismissed these concerns as typical for those in the public eye.

“But really that will come with any public figure, there’ll be speculation about anything,” Russell explained to GB News.
