• United are preparing for their Europa League clash against FCSB on Thursday
  • LISTEN NOW: It’s All Kicking Off! Ruben Amorim’s comments are remarkable… but can we blame him?

Luke Shaw has returned to full Manchester United training in a huge boost for manager Ruben Amorim.

Shaw, 29, has again endured an injury-hit campaign and has played just 98 minutes this season.

The England international was spotted in training, alongside the exiled Marcus Rashford, as United prepare for their Europa League clash against FCSB in Bucharest on Thursday.

Amorim has often been forced to field Diogo Dalot as a makeshift left wing-back in his 3-4-3 system in the absence of Shaw, with the position a recurring problem for the Portuguese as his team struggle to adapt to his tactics.

His return comes as United look set to seal the £30m signing of Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.

Shaw’s most recent game for the club came during the 4-0 win over Everton on December 1. All three of his appearances this season have come from the substitutes’ bench.

His last start in any competition was for England in the European Championship final, which they lost to Spain.

Shaw played in Amorim’s first game in charge – the 1-1 draw with Ipswich – after returning from another long injury lay-off. The match at Portman Road, where he came on with just over half an hour remaining, was his first for United since February.

He had worked back to fitness to feature for England at Euro 2024 after a hamstring problem, but sustained a calf injury ahead of the new Premier League season.

But the defender then suffered his latest setback with a new muscle injury in December.

In an emotional statement on social media last month, Shaw said he was ‘absolutely devastated’ after confirming he had suffered a ‘small setback’.

‘Hi guys, it’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback,’ Shaw wrote.

‘I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period.

‘I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.

Shaw could be in United’s travelling party for the Europa League clash against FCSB

Amorim has said Shaw will be gradually reintroduced into the squad after a series of setbacks

‘I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time.

‘But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.

‘Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really do appreciate it.’

United can confirm their place in the Europa League last 16 with a point against FCSB. The club will reveal their travelling party for the fixture in Romania when Amorim addresses the media later on Wednesday.
