Erik ten Hag has identified where Manchester United must improve following their draw with Aston Villa.

United drew 0-0 away to Villa on Sunday in a largely uneventful encounter.

After conceding three goals in the defeat by Tottenham and the draw with Porto, Ten Hag will have been pleased that his side managed to keep a clean sheet.

However, the Dutchman feels that there are still aspects of their game which United can work on.

United are currently in 14th place after enduring their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

United drew 0-0 away at Aston Villa on Sunday as they continue to struggle to score goals

Ten Hag has admitted that United need to score more goals after they failed to find the back of the net again.

So far this season, United have netted just five times in the Premier League, while the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are all already into double figures.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Ten Hag said: ‘We know in this moment we have a lack of goals, in that perspective it’s not a good start, we have to step up. That’s an area we have to improve.’

Ten Hag stated that Rasmus Hojlund isn’t yet 100 per cent fit following injury.

In addition, he explained that both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are capable of scoring goals despite their apparent early season struggles.

Ten Hag said: ‘That will come. [There are] more reasons. Sometimes it’s the form. Rasmus Hojlund is just in the season, he is not up to 100 [per cent] fitness, match fitness. And he is our goalscorer, I would say our best goalscorer.

‘But also others, we know they can score goals, like Rashford. But he scored in Porto, he had a good assist in Porto, today he created two very good chances.

‘I think Garnacho is all season already a threat, but also scoring and assisting. Bruno [Fernandes] has abilities to score goals. So we will get there and we trust the players. One day it will click.’

United’s first game after the international break will see them host Brentford on October 19.

Ten Hag was given a contract extension after winning the FA Cup at the end of last season but he will need his team’s form to improve significantly.

Dimitar Berbatov claimed that United players should be ashamed after Jonny Evans, 36, was named man of the match against Villa.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Berbatov said: ‘Everybody on the pitch should be ashamed because Evans is man of the match at 36.

‘The criticism will continue to grow, because United need to win to get the points. They are 14th in the table which is unbelievable.

‘The only thing to correct it is to get the points buy with the way they’re playing at the moment that’s going to be hard to do.’
