A man charged with the murder of mother-of-two, Sophie Evans, has pleaded not guilty – but has admitted killing her.

Richard Jones, 50, appeared before Swansea Crown Court via video link where he denied murdering the 30-year-old mother, but admitted to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Jones was arrested earlier this year after the discovery of Sophie Evan’s body in a house on Bigyn Road, in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, on July 5th.

Police have previously stated that Jones was ‘known to Sophie’ and that they were not looking for anyone else in connection with her death in west Wales.

Jones’ murder trial will now commence in January, 2025, with the 50-year-old remanded in custody.

Richard Jones, 50, was arrested a short time after Sophie’s discovery by Dyfed Powys Police

Speaking in the aftermath of Jones’ plea, a spokeswoman for Dyfed Powys Police said; ‘Our thoughts are with Sophie’s family at this time, and they continue to receive support from specialist officers.

‘The investigation team is grateful for the support of the community while enquiries have been carried out.’

In a previous tribute to Sophie, her family expressed their heartbreak over her murder.

‘Our beautiful and amazing sister and daughter Sophie was tragically taken from us, and our lives will never be the same.

‘We are heartbroken by our loss.

‘Our Sophie, only 30 years young, will be greatly missed by us all’.

The family added that Sophie was a person who ‘lived life to its fullest’ and remarked on her ‘huge heart’ and adoring love for her two young girls.
