As women age, their desire for younger-looking skin becomes more noticeable and they often turn to makeup.

A professional makeup artist shared a mistake women make when applying their makeup, which is incidentally “ageing” them.

In a video entitled “your makeup is ageing you! – five common mistakes you might be making”, expert Jeannie Giannone explained that “using way too much foundation or base” is causing women to look older.

She said: “Whatever it is you use on your skin, you [maybe] using way too much.”

Applying less foundation creates a ‘more natural finish’

Foundations today are “incredibly pigmented” so women only need a small amount to create a “flawless look”.

Jeannie said: “You can still use the same full coverage foundation, so it’s still going to give us the finish that we are looking for, but with a lot less product on the skin.”

When applying, the first thing to do is put a little bit of foundation on the back of your hand.

The makeup artist said: “You have so much more control over the product if you put it on the back of your hand as opposed to just putting it directly onto your face. The back of the hand is your palette.”

With a brush and a paper tower, try to remove a lot of the product that is already inside of it.

Jeannie explained: “You are making sure that there is not a lot of product left over in here, that’s going to end up on your face.

“I take a little bit of foundation and work it into the brush, and that makes sure there is product in the brush but it’s not on top of it. Apply very lightly and lightly tap for coverage. We’re just feathering the foundation out. Take whatever product you have and stretch it across the face.”

This helps ensure you have a “more natural finish”. The expert insisted that you do not have to go out and buy something else, the products you have now can work.
