Dark circles under the eyes can make you appear more tired and older, as the skin looks sunken and dull.

An expert has shared how to remove dark circles by applying the right products.

Makeup artist Gabi spoke on the YouTube channel, Glam Girl Gabi, about how a colour-correcting eye cream helps reduce the appearance of dark circles.

She said: “It is the perfect product to use when you want to take the edge off the dark circles. You can grab this and take the edge off, then go on with your day without any effort.”

Picking the right colour-correcting eye cream depends on your skin tone, so you need to be aware of what this is.

Gabi said: “If you have fair to light skin, the best colour corrector for your dark circles is pink. If you have medium skin, you need peach.

“Colour correction is hands down the most important step when covering true dark circles. The biggest mistake that I see people make is going straight in with a concealer that’s actually lighter than their skin tone.”

Women need to focus on taking the darkness away first from underneath their eyes and “that’s where colour corrector comes in”.

In application, Gabi advised: “Take a tiny amount and gently tap it into the darkest areas with your fingers or with a small brush.

“You don’t have to colour your whole under-eye area. Just the part where the discolouration is most intense. Once it is blended, you’ll instantly see how much of a difference it makes in neutralising the darkness.

“Now that our base is corrected, we are ready for concealer. This is when everything comes together.”

With your concealer, apply from the inner corner of the eye and extend it “slightly down the side of the nose”.

This helps to camouflage where the under-eye hollow meets the cheek and “makes everything look smoother”.

The YouTuber said: “Apply a small amount at the outer corner of the eye, blending outwards and upwards towards the temple. This trick will instantly lift the eyes and give a much more youthful and awake appearance.

“When blending, I like to alternate between using a small concealer brush and my fingers in a pressing, never rubbing motion. This keeps the coverage exactly where you need it while softly diffusing the edges into the skin.”

A key component to remember is you are not just covering the darkness, but you are “lifting and brightening” the under-eyes and the rest of your face.
