Liverpool have received a major boost with a key star returning to training.

It is a major week for Arne Slot’s team, who host Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.

Liverpool are leading 1-0 from the first leg against the French side courtesy of Harvey Elliott’s late goal last week.

Following that, Liverpool will turn their focus to the Carabao Cup final on Sunday when they will take on Newcastle at Wembley.

Slot’s side are on track to win the Premier League title in his first season in charge.

Liverpool are 15 points clear of their closest challengers Arsenal at the top of the table, albeit having played a game more than the Gunners.

Liverpool have now been given some good news at a crucial stage of the season, with Cody Gakpo having returned to training.

The attacker has been unavailable for four of Liverpool’s last six matches.

However, he is in contention to make the matchday squad against PSG, which would provide Slot with a useful additional option.

So far this season Gakpo has scored 16 goals in 38 games for Liverpool across all competitions, while he has provided five assists.

Aside from Gakpo, Liverpool’s only current injury concerns are Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley.

Gomez required surgery for a hamstring problem and could return just before the end of the season.

Bradley, meanwhile, has been absent due to a thigh injury.

Although they will not want to look too far ahead, an intriguing clash could await Liverpool if they manage to overcome PSG.

If Liverpool prevail then they could potentially face another English side in Aston Villa.

Villa are currently leading Club Brugge 3-1 from the first leg.
