Legendary sports podcaster Mike Francesa has mocked Melania Trump on his show for her appearance at her husband Donald’s inauguration earlier this week.

Melania caught the eye with a dark navy hat where the rim was so wide, it even appeared to catch the president himself out at one stage.

When he leant in to kiss her on the cheek, he couldn’t get close enough to make contact without knocking into it.

The 70-year-old Francesa felt Melania made a mistake with her outfit, which emerged as one of the major talking points on such a momentous day as her husband finally returned to the White House.

‘Melania is stunning. She has great clothes,’ Francesa said on his podcast. ‘She’s a beautiful woman. I did not like her hat.

‘And I usually like hats, on women, especially on someone as stylish as she is. I did not like her hat at all.

‘Did not like her hat, that’s it. That was very odd. I just did not like her hat. I saw her walk in and I did not like her hat.’

Francesa himself was dealing with an unusual change to his appearance as he recorded his show this week after cutting his forehead.

He told his listeners: ‘I took Harrison (his son) back to school today, and it was a very cold and windy day.

‘I was reaching into the trunk to take out a couple of these bags and the wind blew the trunk down on my head and cut my head open.

‘Under this bandage I actually need stitches. But I can’t get stitches because the cut is too wide. It has to heal first.

‘Then they’ll stitch it and re-stitch it when they can re-stitch it I actually bashed my head open with the trunk of my car today. So, that was my afternoon.’

If he wants to cover the cut up with something a bit more stylish than a band aid, Melania Trump has something he could borrow.

The president, meanwhile, has made a fast start since returning to the White House.

One of the first things he did was to sign a pardon to release every person in jail for their role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

Trump has issued a blanket pardon to at least 1,500 charged over the riots on January 6, 2021

That included Stewart Rhodes, founder of anti-government ‘militia’ the Oath Keepers, and Henry ‘Enrique’ Tarrio, who previously headed up the Proud Boys extremist group,

Rhodes was serving an 18-year sentence for his role in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, while Tarrio had been jailed for 22 years. Both were convicted for seditious conspiracy.

It drew criticism from another sports analyst, the increasingly political Stephen A. Smith, who discussed Trump’s move on his YouTube show.

‘In terms of pardoning folks from the riots in the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, I do not agree with that decision by the president of the United States,’ the ESPN First Take host said.

‘I do believe that a lot of folks should have been pardoned. But when you bring the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers [leaders out of prison], and considering the charges that were leveled against them… anybody that engaged in violence, to me that should have been different.

‘If you’re the commander in chief of the United States of America, if you preach about the importance of law and order, and someone has flagrantly engaged in lawlessness, but you give them a pass just because they supported you… you’re not supporting the law, you’re supporting you.’
