A woman has been stabbed to death while an urgent search has been launched for a man seen fleeing from the scene.

Emergency services were called to a home along the Great Western Highway at Kingswood, western Sydney, at 1.40pm on Monday.

A woman, aged in her 20s, was found with two stab wounds to her chest. 

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she died.

Det. Supt Trent King of NSW Police told a media conference they are searching for a man in relation to the woman’s death. 

The man is described as a 21-year-old Islander male of solid build, wearing a black jacket, black pants and a red and black basketball singlet. 

Det. Supt Trent King said the man was last seen on foot, running from the unit complex.

A crime scene has been established with detectives launching an investigation

A woman, aged in her 20s, was found with two stab wounds to her chest at a home along the Great Western Highway at Kingswood, western Sydney

The woman is yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

 ‘Whilst it is considered that this was a targeted incident, I would urge the public if they do see this person or have any information in relation to this person, to contact triple zero in the first instance and not to approach him,’ Det. Supt Trent King said.

NSW Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
