King Charles will host a milestone event as the 75-year-old monarch returns to royal duties.

In a new statement from Buckingham Palace, Charles is confirmed to be returning to work after being diagnosed with a form of cancer two months ago.

The King and Queen will host the Emperor and Empress of Japan for a state visit in June at the government’s request.

Charles maintained a close relationship with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako and has visited the nation five times as the Prince of Wales.

The Emperor and Empress of Japan also attended the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

During the visit, the Emperor attended a reception hosted by Charles for the Heads of State and Official Overseas Guests at Buckingham Palace.

The statement from Buckingham Palace read: “His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis.

The monarch will meet with medical specialists and patients on Tuesday in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis.

The Palace has not confirmed whether or not King Charles will attend his Birthday Parade, D-Day Commemorations, Garden Parties, Royal Ascot or an Autumn Tour overseas with Queen Camilla.

However, royal aides have noted that the King’s duties will “remain subject to doctors’ advice nearer the time.”

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson concluded: “His Majesty is greatly encouraged to be resuming some public-facing duties and very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise.”
