Princess Kate and Prince William are “being very careful” on how to mark the Princess of Wales’s birthday on January 9, a royal expert has exclusively told GB News.

After an “incredibly tough” 2024 for the Royal Family, Princess Kate is set to begin the New Year by celebrating her 43rd birthday with her family.

It is unclear how the Prince and Princess of Wales, both currently 42, will celebrate the occasion, with no official plans or statements being released.

Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that the royal couple will plan “step-by-step” as they enter the New Year.

He told GB News: “If you look at Kensington Palace and the way they handled this. They’ve been very careful.”

“We have absolutely no idea the way she will celebrate her birthday.

“There have been meetings we know she’s participated in, but they’ve been very very careful firstly not to give to much notice of this, and secondly not to commit themselves to anything.

“We know that the Waleses were due to go to Italy, anything like that must be planned months in advance and you can’t when she still has a long way to go.”

Princess Kate told fans in September last year that despite completing her preventative chemotherapy treatment, her recovery will be long and she must “take each day as it comes”.

The mother-of-three also empathised her excitement to return to royal working duties.

Speaking on the future, Fitzwilliams said: “Success in Chemotherapy and beating cancer is one thing; pulling back completely and being able to tour as she would normally is completely different.

“It has always been emphasised by William and her that there was a long way to go. Things are being taken step by step.”

Fitzwilliams added: “I’m sure she will see more of her, but there have been no dates or indications given, so I do think we have to be careful.”

Prince William described 2024 as “brutal” and “the hardest year” in his life as Princess Kate announced she was diagnosed with cancer in March.

The Prince of Wales said: “It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.

“But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”
