Joel Dommett has revealed an awkward blunder whilst filming the new series of The Masked Singer, after repeatedly singing a Stormzy song in front of new judge Maya Jama.
The show’s host admitted he was unaware of Jama’s recent split from the rapper when he kept performing the tune during recording.
“I remember, during the recording, I kept on singing a Stormzy song and then I felt really bad about it,” Dommett told The Sun.
“Someone sort of dragged me aside and said, ‘That’s someone that just broke up’. And I was like, ‘Arrgh, I’m the worst human being ever’, but Maya’s lovely and just laughed it off.”
The gaffe came after Jama and Stormzy announced their shock split in July 2024.
The Masked Singer returns for its third season on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 7pm on ITV1, marking Maya Jama’s debut as a panellist alongside Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, and Mo Gilligan.

Speaking to Principle Magazine, Dommett praised Jama’s seamless integration into the show.
“She’s great. She fit right in immediately. It’s a weird show to come in on. When you’re there in the flesh, it’s so hard. It can flummox a lot of people but she was brilliant,” he said.
The host attributed her easy adaptation to her already “ridiculous lifestyle” of private yachts and planes, suggesting the show’s peculiarities felt relatively normal to her.
Dommett has revealed the new series will feature unexpected twists and turns, with the show “getting weirder” than ever before.

“It’s getting odder and odder. And if you thought it was weird before, it’s getting even more strange,” he told Principle Magazine.
One dramatic moment saw a contestant storm off stage after being eliminated from the competition.
“There is an amazing reveal in this series that is gonna be my favorite reveal forever,” Dommett said. “One of the characters gets voted off and they are really not happy about it. Like genuinely.”
The host added that production has given him free rein to pursue any “mad idea” he conceives.
Among the new additions to the show is a “Giant Joel” costume, which Dommett describes as “unbelievable” and potentially frightening for young viewers.
“The nose is massive. The teeth are obviously absolutely huge, and the grin is petrifying. It would scare children,” he told Principle Magazine.
