ITV Unforgotten viewers were left sorely disappointed last night as they pointed out a major “plot hole” during the final episode.
The popular crime drama concluded with the shocking revelation that Gerry Cooper was accidentally killed by his own daughter Taylor whilst defending her mother from his violent attack.
Gerry Cooper’s remains were discovered on Whitney Marsh, leading investigators to identify him as Juliet Cooper’s (Victoria Hamilton) missing husband.
The investigation revealed Cooper had been leading a double life, having accumulated substantial debt during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Initial suspicions fell on two primary suspects. Marty (Maximilian Fairley)came under scrutiny after breaking into Juliet’s house.
Asif Syed (Elham Ehsas) was also investigated due to his anger towards Cooper following the death of his young son in damp conditions at one of Cooper’s properties.

Both suspects were later cleared as the investigation took a different turn following the discovery of a suspicious voicemail.
When investigators interviewed Juliet’s daughter Taylor, the truth emerged. Taylor revealed she had stabbed her father in the leg while trying to protect her mother from his attack.
Taylor had unknowingly caused her father’s death, having been unaware that the leg wound she inflicted would prove fatal.
Following a review of the case, DCI Jessie James (Sinéad Keenan) received confirmation from the Crown Prosecution Service that pursuing charges against either Taylor or her mother would not serve the public interest.
Fans were left unsure of the outcome

Despite James and DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) solving the case, no arrests were made and left the team feeling deflated.
As another series came to an end, viewers at home were left confused and unsure that the series had depicted true court proceedings.
Taking to X to point out the “plothole” one noted: “#unforgotten can killing someone, chopping up their body, disposing of the body parts and then cashing in a life policy ever deemed to be ‘not in the public interest’ for prosecution by the CPS?
“And doesn’t a court decide the difference between murder and manslaughter?”
Another added: “Surely this is a ‘bit’ of a plot hole CPS don’t feel it’s in the public interest that she chopped up a body, dumped it into the marsh and claimed the 400k in life insurance???
“Murder and fraud, she’s had a right result. Glad she didn’t type a mean meme as well.”

A third penned: “So, you can just cut someone up and dispose of the pieces, with no comeback. A very moral tale. #unforgotten.”
“@itv have destroyed #unforgotten,” another simply claimed before a fifth agreed: “#Unforgotten. The irony of not being able to forget you’ve wasted 6 hours of your life watching politically correct, wokey-dokey nonsense.”
