You’ve heard of backyard cricket pitches, but one footy fan has taken his passion to an entirely new level with a home pitch dedicated to the MCG.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground will play host to the AFL grand final this Saturday between the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions.
So one lawn enthusiast decided to prepare his yard in the most perfect way possible, emulating the MCG in an incredible landscaping feat.
The massive effort was the brainchild of Nick Bransgrove, a social media phenomenon who runs the TikTok page Lawnsingoodnick and other social media channels that he hopes will ‘get people off social media and out in the yard’.
In the video he painstakingly mows the perfect criss-cross stripes into his yard, marks out the boundary and 50 metre lines, assembles the goal posts and even includes sideline sponsorship.
‘My epic plan came to life,’ Bransgrove posted.
‘Best of luck to Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions in the upcoming AFL grand final. I’m sure the real Melbourne Cricket Ground will look far better than mine.

Bransgrove kicks a goal in his backyard on the tribute to the Melbourne Cricket Ground that he created ahead of grand final day
The MCG is the most iconic footy and cricket ground in Australia and will play host to the grand final between the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions on Saturday
In the video clip of the construction of the home MCG, Bransgrove included commentary highlights of some of the great moments in AFL grand final history including James Hird, Jason Akermanis, Steele Sidebottom, Dom Sheed, Heath Shaw, Dustin Martin, Shane Crawford, Leo Barry and Alex Jesaulenko.
He also included the audio of iconic commentators including James Brayshaw, Brian Taylor, Sandy Roberts, Bruce McAvaney, Steven Quartermain, Mike Williamson, Anthony Hudson and Dennis Cometti.
It was a labour of love that had footy fans staggered.
‘Backyard cricket is one thing, but backyard footy is on another level,’ one follower posted.
‘Get the big screen out on that and you have a good pitch to watch the final on,’ another said.
‘It’s times like this where having this app is truly rewarding,’ a TikTok user posted.
‘Grand final day at your place then … my kids will flip seeing this,’ another posted, inviting themselves over for the big day.
