Women who want to look younger than their age have countless strategies at their fingertips, from drinking skin-boosting juices to updating their skin care regime to adding a key ingredient to their coffee.

For an instant fix, ladies can also use makeup to take years off their appearance in minutes.

Alison Gay Makeup Artistry (@alisongaymakeup on TikTok) took to the sharing platform with some insights into how women can “fake a facelift”.

In an anti-ageing makeup video, she told beauty enthusiasts that several common makeup can make you look “much older”.

She illustrated this by making the aforementioned makeup mistakes on the right of her face and applying her makeup perfectly on the left side of her face.

Gesturing to the left side of her face, Alison said: “This side is old, puffy, jowls – just no, no, no.”

Gesturing to the ride side of her face, she asked viewers: “Can you see how lifted and sculpted and youthful this side is?”

In a second video, Alison showed makeup enthusiasts the mistakes that age her in seconds – and more importantly, how to correct them. She advised ladies to aim for “lift”.

She said: “Did you know that not using the right makeup techniques can drastically age you?”

Offering a simple but savvy eyebrow hack, Alison advised against “taking the tail downwards”. Instead, they should “take the tail in an upward direction”.

As for concealer, the expert urged women to avoid using too much underneath the eyes. She warned that overdoing it will “emphasise your bags and fine lines and make you look old”.

Now this doesn’t mean ditching concealer altogether. It should simply be used sparingly in the inner and outer corners.

Providing a word of warning on contour, Alison said: “Placing your contour too low down is just going to drag your face down.

“Instead, place it higher. Find your natural cheekbone with your finger and place it just above that area.”

Moving on to blusher, the makeup artist advised against applying this pop of colour to the apples of your cheeks.

While this is a popular technique, it may not have the same effect in your more mature years as it did in your 20s and 30s.

Instead of the apples of the cheeks, ladies were advised to apply blush just above their contour – although no further than the tail of their brow.

As for foundation, Alison told women not to “overload” on this – “it’s just not a good look”.

“Instead, place a few dots with your fingers and blend it in with your brush.”

Finally, the expert advised anti-ageing enthusiasts to rethink their eyeliner technique. She said: “Instead of using a thick black liner in a downward placement, use a thin brown liner instead and blend it with your finger.”

In other makeup news, women were told to avoid a mistake that is making them look “older” over 60.
