Many women go down the route of cosmetic treatments if they want to look younger than their years, with both surgical and non-surgical procedures designed to turn back the clock.

But there are easier – and cheaper – ways to achieve a youthful appearance. A makeup artist spoke exclusively to GB News about how mature can age backwards with a few simple tricks.

‘For your base makeup, go for something lightweight and luminous’

“Start with a brightening primer that contains moisturising and anti-ageing ingredients. This will add a gorgeous glow and youthful radiance to your complexion.”

The expert advised that heavy foundations are doing mature women no favours, and that they should be reaching for a concealer instead.

Rachael advised: “For your base makeup, go for something lightweight and luminous – heavy foundations can settle into fine lines and can look ageing on your skin.

“The Jane Iredale Active Light Concealer (available for £34) is a firm favourite as it contains antioxidant ingredients to reduce under-eye puffiness and dark circles, giving you a fresh, rejuvenated appearance.”

Next, the expert advised mature women to apply blush for a “fun pop of colour” to their cheeks. This gives a “youthful flush to your complexion”.

Brush this across the apples of your cheeks to add “fullness and a sun-drenched glow”.

The makeup guru continued: “Fuller brows and long, voluminous lashes really give a youthful look, so don’t forget to emphasise them to add more definition.”

To complete the ultimate mature makeup look, Rachael advised applying a tinted lip balm.

She said: “Lastly, adding a hydrating lip balm will help to give your lips a fuller, more youthful appearance – choose a tinted balm for a pretty hint of colour that’s perfect for summer!”

Like a heavy foundation, heavy lipstick can settle into the fine lines on the lips.
