Many people wash their hair daily but there is a significant amount of information against this.
Overwashing your hair can cause damage and do more harm than women realise, according to one expert.
CEO of skin and hair specialists Este Medical Group, Sam Cinkir explained the harm washing hair too often causes.
He said: “Washing your hair too often can lead to a whole range of problems, from tangles, split ends and breakages to a dry and itchy scalp, especially if done with harsh shampoos.”

While it is very important to remain clean, “there is such a thing as overkill”.
Sam explained: “Our hair produces a natural oil called sebum, which helps protect from moisture loss. But shampooing too often strips this away and leaves our locks vulnerable to damage.”
The number of times you wash your hair depends on your hair type. Generally “once or twice a week with lukewarm water is the sweet spot”.
Women with fine hair should wash twice or three times a week if absolutely necessary. Those with thicker hair are better off sticking to once or twice a week, the expert continued.
He recommended: “If you find your hair is excessively greasy, you may be tempted to wash more often, but the key is to find the right balance for you.”
Sam also advised against using too hot water as it can dry out the scalp and make stands more brittle.
