The New York Mets are on a six-game win streak, looking in the best form they have in years after a 14-2 win on Monday night over the Texas Rangers, and they have Grimace to thank.
That’s right, the round, purple McDonalds mascot that’s friends with the Hamburglar and Ronald McDonald is the good-luck charm for the pro team from Queens.
How so? Even if Citi Field does have any golden arch locations inside?
On June 12, Grimace threw out the first pitch at a game against the Miami Marlins. The pitch itself was awful, as Grimce stood at the foot of the mound, as opposed to the rubber, and the pitch one-hopped outside the strike zone and batter’s box.
Yet, the Mets have not lost since, starting off with a 10-4 over Miami the day of Grimace’s pitch.

New York was 28-37 before Grimace’s first pitch, and now, it is three games under .500.
The Mets were victorious the next day, winning a series over the Marlins in a critical battle for positioning in the National League East.
Then came a home series against the San Diego Padres, who still have some serious firepower in Jurickson Profar, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Manny Machado.
New York won those games 11-6, 2-1, and 5-1.
Last night’s 14-2 drubbing of the World Series champion Texas Rangers was the Mets first road win on their current win streak, with two more games at Globe Life Park to go before a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs.
The Mets showed some life to save their season before Grimace came into their lives. And although they are still 13.5 games out of the National League East lead, they’re only one game back of the second Wild Card spot.
If the trend continues, Mets fans may invest in Big Macs and McRibs to continue their team’s meteoric rise.
