Eating the right foods every day is one of the most effective ways to manage your blood sugar levels.
An expert spoke exclusively to GB News on what people should consider adding to their diets, highlighting three foods.
Health and wellness coach Sarah Stannard said: “Stabilised blood sugar levels not only promote sustained energy but also reduce the risk of long-term health issues like diabetes and inflammation.”
One of the foods she advised eating is fenugreek seeds. These can be easily added into your meals.
Sarah explained: “Fenugreek seeds are rich in soluble fibre; it slows the digestion of carbohydrates and improves glucose metabolism.
“Soaking the seeds overnight and consuming them with water or in meals can offer great benefits.”
An article published in the National Library of Medicine also showed this. It said: “Ten studies involving 706 participants found that fenugreek significantly reduced fasting blood glucose levels.”
Fenugreek seeds are an excellent choice for breakfast to “stabilise blood sugar early and reduce cravings later in the day”.
Including cinnamon in your meals also has several benefits in reducing blood glucose.
The expert said: “Studies suggest cinnamon can improve insulin sensitivity and lower fasting blood sugar levels. A sprinkle on porridge or mix it in herbal tea can be a simple addition to daily routines.”
Another option to incorporate is chia seeds which help “slow digestion and the release of glucose”.
Sarah advised: “Chia seeds are excellent for stabilising blood sugar due to their high fibre content.”
Aside from picking the right foods, the expert advised timing your meals is important so that you avoid long gaps between meals.
The health coach continued: “It prevents the blood sugar rollercoaster that can occur when the body experiences fasting and feasting extremes.
“Light activity after eating, such as a 10-minute walk, helps the body utilise glucose more effectively, reducing blood sugar levels naturally.”
A nutritionist has also shared a food group to start every meal with for stable blood sugar levels.
