- A new documentary will go behind the scenes with the Matildas
- Stan Sports is releasing Trailblazers before the Paris Olympics
- Sam Kerr and Mary Fowler are involved in the documentary
Matildas fans will be given a sneak peak behind the scenes after Stan Sports announced the arrival of a new documentary following Sam Kerr & Co, to premiere later this year.
Tony Gustavsson’s side sealed their place at this year’s Paris Olympics on Wednesday night after smashing Uzbekistan 13-0 on aggregate, capping off a remarkable 12 months which saw them reach the semi-final of the World Cup.
And now a Stan Original Documentary titled Trailblazers will showcase the transformational journey of Australia’s women’s team.
Trailblazers will take viewers through the rise of the Matildas, and women’s football in Australia more generally.
The documentary will cover the first FIFA recognised game in 1989 and the early years of paying to play, as well as team striking for equal pay in 2015, their heartbreak at Tokyo 2020 and last year’s World Cup journey.
The Matildas will be the focus of a new documentary coming to Stan Originals

Katrina Gorry appears on the documentary that focuses on women’s football
Kerr, Mary Fowler and Katrina Gorry, just a handful of the players who are now household names, will feature in the documentary.
Trailblazers will air just before the start of the Paris Olympics.
Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie said: ‘Stan is delighted to be working with the filmmakers of Trailblazers, Documentary Australia and Mecca to amplify and celebrate the incredible rise of women’s football.
‘The Matildas are one of Australia’s most beloved teams and we know this documentary will inspire, educate and drive important conversations ahead of Paris 2024.’
The Stan Original Documentary Trailblazers is coming soon, only on Stan.
The documentary will air on Stan before the Paris Olympics later this year
