The Foo Fighters are reportedly set to take an indefinite hiatus following frontman Dave Grohl’s recent admission of fathering a child outside his marriage.
The band abruptly cancelled their appearance at this weekend’s Soundside Music Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut, with just three days’ notice.
A statement on social media read: “Foo Fighters will no longer be appearing at this weekend’s Soundside Music Festival. Please check the festival website for more information.”
The cancellation comes in the wake of Grohl’s shocking revelation earlier this month that he had welcomed a baby girl with an unnamed woman, despite being married to Jordyn Blum since 2003.
Sources close to the band have revealed the reasons behind the hiatus, with a source telling The Sun: “It’s been a turbulent few years, with the loss of their best friend, drummer Taylor Hawkins, the death of Dave’s mum and now the birth of his new child.
“He wants to be at home and focus on earning back the trust of his family. Being on the road isn’t the best thing for any of them at the moment.”
The 55-year-old frontman is reportedly determined to rebuild his family’s trust, even if it means putting the band’s activities on hold.
Grohl announced the news on social media on 10 September, stating: “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”
He added: “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
This is not the first time Grohl has admitted to infidelity. In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, he confessed to cheating on his first wife, Jennifer Leigh Youngblood, whom he divorced in 1997.
Grohl and Blum share three daughters: Violet, 18; Harper, 15; and Ophelia, 10.
The band’s potential break has sparked speculation about their future performances.
A source told The Mirror: “The band need time to be with their families and focus on regrouping.”
