Wetherspoons is set to toast an uptick in sales and profits after showing Euro 24 matches.

Most of its 809 pubs have provided coverage, apart from the 21 that do not have TVs.

‘Spoons’ does not usually show live sport but relented for the 2022 World Cup. A 6 per cent rise in sales is expected for the current quarter.

And profits are forecast to reach the upper end of expectations, which could be £75m for the year.

Booming beer sales during the tournament, at which England have reached the semi-final, may have mitigated against the impact of a wet June, analysts said.

Derren Nathan, at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: ‘England’s arguably fortunate progress won’t be doing bar takings any harm but that may be somewhat offset by the wettest spring since 1986.

‘Investors will be looking out for any changes to guidance.’

Wetherspoons will post a trading update on Wednesday.
