- Raducanu was approached in Dubai by a man she’d seen several times before
- A coach working with Raducanu said the man followed her across countries
- Despite this, the British star is still set to compete at Indian Wells
Emma Raducanu is heading to Indian Wells and will compete next week for the first time since her traumatic experience in Dubai with a ‘fixated individual’.
The 22-year-old has been offered additional security at the event in California after a man tracked her across four countries over the last month. After he approached her in Dubai she reported the matter to the tournament and when he then turned up at her second-round match Raducanu was reduced to tears.
The man was ejected from the arena and detained by local police. Raducanu dropped charges after he signed a restraining order promising to keep away from her.
Raducanu flew home to London but has decided to get straight back to the grind of the tour with one of the most prestigious events in the calendar.
Her ranking of world No55 is enough to gain direct entry into the main draw, which begins on Wednesday March 5.
As her search for a new coach continues she is joined by Tom Welsh, a former hitting partner of Leylah Fernandez, who Raducanu beat to win the 2021 US Open, and a coach at the Loughborough Tennis Academy.
