Electric vehicles cleaned up at the prestigious Autocar Awards 2024 ceremony which recognised the top car brands within the industry.
Seat’s Cupra Born was named Best Electric Car at the awards and was praised for its ability to deliver 240kw of power and accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds.
Other big winners included the French car model Renault Clio which took home Britain’s Best Small Car at the ceremony. The hybrid car is on sale for £17,000, and combines two electric motors with a four-cylinder, 1.6-litre 95hp petrol engine.
Meanwhile, the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato took home Best Driver’s Car for the £232,820 powerhouse, which is powered by a V10 engine reaching a maximum speed of 161mph.

Other cars recognised at the ceremony included the £64,245 Kia EV9 which won Best Large Car. The SUV has an impressive 350-mile range and has the option to include either a 76.1kWh battery or a 99.8kWh battery to power the slick electric car.
The £64,220 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N won Best Performance Car at the awards, with an impressive 278-mile range and a top speed of 161mph.
The BMW 5 Series took home Best Hybrid, for its 153kW engine which can hit speeds of 143mph. It is currently priced at £45,000.
The Volkswagen ID 7 on sale for £50,670, won Best Saloon and the Ford Mustang was awarded Best Dream Car.
Renault boss Luca De Meo was awarded the Issigonis Trophy for his role in helping further the car brand and for the leadership he displayed in the wider European automotive industry.
De Meo began his career at Renault before working at other car makers such as Toyota, Fiat, Volkswagen and Seat.
Last year, he also was named on the Autocar Business 100 Power List rankings after Renault brought in profits of €2.12billion (£1.86billion).
Mark Tisshaw, editor of Autocar, explained that the effect that Luca de Meo has had on Renault Group and on the wider industry makes him a “worthy recipient of our top award”, adding that he was “excited to see where he takes the company next”.
Other winners of the night included Aston Martin’s executive vice president and chief creative officer, Marek Reichman.
He won the Sturmey Award for innovation and achievement, in recognition of ten years of work on cars such as the DB11, Vulcan and DBX.
Meanwhile, the Mundy Award for Engineering was won by David Moss, senior vice president of research and development at Nissan.
Legendary F1 commentator Martin Brundle bagged the Editor’s Award for his coverage and enthusiasm for the races.
