Eamonn Holmes received an emotional surprise painting featuring himself alongside his late mother Josie – which left him to share the gesture on his social media account.

The 65-year-old broadcaster was photographed beaming from his wheelchair whilst holding the artwork, created by artist Annis Booker.

The touching piece, which includes a portrait of Holmes and his mother who passed away in 2022, was shared by the presenter on his Instagram account.

Sharing the image with his followers, Eamonn expressed his gratitude and wrote: “Thank u Annis @drawingonemotions.

“Lovely work made lovelier by the surprise inclusion of my late Mum Josie. Thank you.”

Fans were equally as touched by the gesture and flooded his comment section with messages of support and emotion.

One fan penned: “So thoughtful. That’s a touching idea.”

Another commented: “Wow what a touching and sentimental piece to treasure. I’m sure your lovely Mum would have loved this very much. I hope you find a special place to put it at home.”

Josie Holmes passed away in hospital at the age of 93 in November 2022 and sadly due to ongoing health issues, Eamonn was unable to attend his mother’s funeral.

Eamonn now relies primarily on a wheelchair for movement, though he uses a walker for shorter distances.

Last year, he spoke openly about his “epidemic of pain” which has significantly impacted his mobility.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Eamonn acknowledged the difficult reality of his situation, saying: “I have tried every treatment.

“But you go, ‘Maybe I’ll never get out of it,’ which is a harsh reality to face.”

The presenter previously reflected on his challenging year, stating: “It’s as if somebody up there is playing with my life.

“In the past year I’ve had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair.”
