The Duchess of Edinburgh’s popularity has surged after a candid update was shared about her marriage with Prince Edward.
According to the latest YouGov poll, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are seen positively by most Britons, with a small majority (53 to 55 per cent) having a good opinion of Prince Edward and Sophie.
Sophie, 60, has surged in popularity the most compared to every other member of the Royal Family, jumping by three per cent from December 2024.
In comparison, Princess Anne’s popularity only rose by one per cent, while King Charles’s had decreased by three per cent.

Sophie and Edward are now the fifth and sixth most popular royals respectively, trailing behind Princess Kate, Prince William, Princess Anne and King Charles.
The Duchess of Edinburgh’s rise in popularity comes shortly after her husband’s candid marriage update.
During a recent royal tour to Nepal, Prince Edward sweetly declared: “Because we’re best friends” when asked about their enduring relationship.
Sophie nodded in agreement to the candid admission.

The mother of two emphasised the importance of humour in their partnership. Sophie explained: “Oh, there’s always got to be humour.
“Especially when you’re travelling and you’ve got no idea what’s about to happen. You’ve got to laugh.”
Prince Edward began dating Sophie Rhys-Jones in 1993, shortly after reconnecting at a charity event.
They first met in 1987 when Sophie was working as a press officer at Capital Radio.

The Duke proposed to Sophie in December 1998 while on holiday in the Bahamas. The Edinburghs announced their engagement in January 1999.
They married in June 1999 at St George’s Chapel, and were known as the Earl and Countess of Wessex for 24 years.
King Charles bestowed the “Duke of Edinburgh” title on his younger brother as a 59th birthday present in 2023.
Prince Edward is the late Queen Elizabeth II’s only child who has not been divorced.
