Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has been named as the Premier League’s Player of the Month for January.

Jota has been in fine form since returning from injury at the end of December and scored three goals and added two assists last month.

The 27-year-old has stepped up impressively for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the absence of Mohamed Salah due to AFCON and injury and has been crucial in Liverpool’s title push.

The Reds are currently top, two points clear of both Man City and Arsenal as they aim to end Klopp’s tenure in perfect fashion.

Jota missed most of December due to a muscle injury, but returned off the bench on Boxing Day against Burnley, scoring shortly after coming on.

He was introduced in the second half during the Reds’ 4-2 win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day, setting up Curtis Jones.

Jota then scored twice and added an assist in an impressive 4-0 win against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

He followed that up with a superb opening goal in Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield, as he took the ball past Thiago Silva and Benoit Badiashile before finishing with aplomb.

Jota’s award comes amid an impressive season for the Portuguese forward, who has netted 14 goals and added three assists in 17 starts in all competitions.

During January, Jota also added a goal and assist in FA Cup ties against Arsenal and Norwich, with the Reds remaining in contention in the four competitions they are in.

They are back in action on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to west London to take on Brentford.
