Former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov praised Spurs’ team effort for their second goal against Brighton, before the hosts dramatic second-half collapse to lose 3-2.

A Timo Werner cutback inside of the Brighton area tee’d-up James Maddison, who cooly slotted past keeper, Bart Verbruggen, to make it 2-0.

The Werner assist was borne of good build-up play from striker Dominic Solanke, who had originally slid through Brennan Johnson to put Spurs up 1-0.

But Berbatov hailed the entire team effort from top to bottom, as a well-worked move began with a quick turnover from Spurs’ keeper, Guglielmo Vicario.

However, the game was totally flipped on its head as Danny Welbeck struck to put Brighton in the lead on the 66th minute, and seal a stunning 3-2 win for the hosts – something that was almost totally inconceivable at half-time.

Former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov praised Spurs for a ‘perfect goal’ against Brighton

James Maddison slotted home a Timo Werner cut-back pass to make it 2-0 before half-tine

‘This is the perfect goal starting from the keeper,’ Berbatov said, speaking on Sky Sports. ‘Great composure. Timo Werner with the pass to Maddison.

‘Yes it was a mistake by the keeper but it was perfect.’

That makes it two goals in his last three Premier League appearances for James Maddison, which is as many as he’s scored in his past 28 league outings.

Spurs were 2-0 up at break and looked to have a complete stranglehold on the game

Tottenham led Brighton 2-0 away from home at the break, but two Brighton goals from Yankuba Minteh and Georginio Rutter, all within the space of ten minutes, put the Seagulls back on parity at 2-2.
