Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is facing a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy, according to reports.

ESPN broke the news of Williams’ potential ban over a performance-enhancing substance late on Monday night.

The violation is the latest setback in what has been a bumpy start to his NFL career after he was drafted by Detroit out of Alabama with the 12th overall pick in 2022.

After missing the first 11 games of his rookie season due to an ACL injury he suffered in college, Williams received a four-game suspension after violating the NFL’s gambling policy in his second year.

The 23-year-old’s gambling suspension – which he received for betting on non-NFL games from a club facility – was reduced from six to four games after a rule change by the league.

Williams was previously suspended for four games in 2023 over a gambling violation

He was one of four Detroit players who were suspended for violating gambling rules at the time, along with fellow receivers Quintez Cephus and Stanley Berryhill and safety C.J. Moore.

After their suspension was announced, the Lions released Cephus and Moore from the team while also criticizing Williams and Berryhill.

Williams told ESPN that he is disappointed after being found to have violated the NFL’s  performance-enhancing substance policy but has ‘no choice but to take it on the chin.’

‘I’m in good spirits just ready to get back with [my] brothers ASAP,’ he is quoted as saying.

Williams was targeted only once for -4 yards in the Lions’ dramatic 31-29 victory over the previously-unbeaten Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
