A man who climbed through a woman’s window and raped her just hours after meeting her at a barbecue has been jailed.

Antanas Jancevskis and his victim had both attended the gathering in the area of Leicester’s Glenfield Road on April 17, 2022.

That evening she was taken home by two friends and ended up falling asleep on her sofa.

However later that night she woke to find 35-year-old Jancevskis lying on the sofa with her, where he subsequently raped her, police said.

When he left to go to the toilet she ran from her flat and alerted a member of the public, who immediately rang the police.

Jancevskis was arrested by cops in the early hours of April 18.

On February 19, 2025, following a trial at Leicester Crown Court, Jancevskis – of Castle Street in Boston, Lincolnshire – was found guilty of one count of rape.

Today, at the same court, he was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and will be placed on the sex offender register for life.

Detective Constable James Alcock was the investigating officer in the incident.

He said: ‘This is a deeply disturbing case, particularly because he entered her home through a window.

‘The victim has shown great bravery as she’s had to re-live her ordeal through a trial.

‘I hope the local community can take some reassurance from the fact he’s been convicted of his crime and is now serving a period of imprisonment.’
