Philippe Clement admits he has no issue with Rangers chairman Fraser Thornton’s scathing assessment of his side’s form on the road.

Addressing a hospitality lounge before Wednesday’s game with Aberdeen, Thornton didn’t mince his words when summing up the fact the team had only won three of 11 Premiership games all season.

In a video leaked on social media, the chairman told the audience: ‘I have to say home (form) has been okay, but away is horrendous.’

Asked about the remarks in his regular Friday press conference, Clement reiterated that he was also deeply unhappy with the results away from Ibrox which have all but ended Rangers’ title challenge.

‘You need to take into account that my English is not my native language,’ said the Belgian. ‘So “horrendous” compared to other words, maybe I don’t make the right conclusions about that.

‘I’ve said it also for weeks and months, I’m totally not happy with our away results. Clearly, I’m not happy about that. Nobody in the club is. Not players, not staff, not board members, not fans.

‘Home form, everybody’s very pleased about that because it’s a very good record. We need to get better away results. We’re all aware of that.’

Asked if the poor away form had been part of conversations he’d had with Thornton and chief executive Patrick Stewart, Clement added: ‘Of course, we talked about a lot of things. Also about reasons why. It could be that the away results were not in the same way as the home results. And how to change that.’

Last week, Stewart said there could be up to two additions to Clement’s squad if the right players were available.

But the manager believes that will only happen if he can first move fringe players on.

‘It’s something that will be necessary for the club, yes. That’s a club decision,’ he said.

Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell head the list of players that Rangers would like to leave this month.

‘I never speak about individual cases and names in that way,’ said Clement.

‘It’s always the same in the transfer window. It’s about the right price for every player. It needs to be a win-win for everybody.’

Clement confirmed that none of the players who missed the midweek win over Aberdeen will be available for Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie with Fraserburgh.

While Danilo has joined the injured list after hobbling off on Wednesday, Robin Propper could yet feature against the Highland League outfit despite also coming off.
