Reform UK donor Charlie Mullins has claimed to GB News that the Labour Government’s attempt to strip him of his OBE was “politically motivated”.

The multimillionaire was first accused of “bringing the honours system into disrepute” last September over comments made in 2022.

The Honours Forfeiture Committee informed Mullins they were “minded to recommend to His Majesty that your OBE be revoked”.

The 72-year-old businessman, who primarily lives in Spain, received his OBE in the 2015 New Year Honours under David Cameron’s Government.

He told GB News: “It’s politically motivated to try to take the OBE off me. They’ve lost the games over.

“We’ve already had the decision. They’ve got no grounds to go on. They’re talking about all these silly, nonsense posts on Twitter, which are two or three years ago.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“The real reason is because I’m a Reform UK supporter now and a donor, the fact that I don’t agree or believe anything that Labour say.

“I’ve moved out of the UK not to avoid tax, but to avoid Labour. That’s what it’s about as a personal attack.”

The investigation centred on several controversial social media posts, including one where Mullins wrote “someone should kill” London Mayor Sadiq Khan in a discussion about Ulez.

The committee also raised concerns about a “misogynistic” comment made on GB News about Carol Vorderman having her “t**s hanging out”.

In his GB News interview, Mullins defended his remarks as “freedom of speech” and downplayed their significance.

He added: “So it is the mob. They’re all drinking from the same teapot, right?

“They’re attacking me. It’s a victimisation, right? It’s freedom of speech. I haven’t crossed the line. This is two years ago.”

He described them as “throwaway comments” similar to what “somebody might say in the pub”.

Mullins was told last week that no action would be taken after his lawyers made submissions on his behalf.

These included a pledge to undertake “gender sensitivity and diversity training”.

He later apologised “unreservedly” and withdrew his remarks about Khan.

He also apologised on air for his comments about Carol Vorderman.
