The UK Government has issued a warning to Britons about a high terrorism threat in Brazil.
Officials caution that terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks in Brazil and are urging travellers to avoid crowded areas and public gatherings.
The threat is part of a global terrorism risk affecting UK interests and British nationals.
Attacks could target places visited by foreigners, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) warned in an update.

A statement by the FCDO reads: “Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.
“You should remain aware of your surroundings, keep up to date with local media reports and follow the advice of local authorities.”
The FCDO advised tourists to “exercise caution around major sites in large Brazilian cities” following the November explosions.
The two explosions took place at the Praça dos Três Poderes in central Brasilia on November 13, 2024.
UK Counter Terrorism Policing has provided information on reducing risks from terrorism whilst abroad.
Areas to avoid:
The FCDO has advised against all but essential travel to specific river areas in western Amazonas State.
These include parts of the Amazonas River and its tributaries west of Codajás and east of Belém do Solimões.
The warning also covers any part of the Itaquaí River and Japurá River in Amazonas State.
Additionally, travellers should avoid the Rio Negro and its tributaries north or west of Barcelos.
