Ex-police officer Oliver Laurence has urged the British force to reopen Spanish lines of inquiry into two ‘mystery men’.
The 19-year-old British teenager left a music festival in Playa de las Americas with two British men before his disappearance.
The Guardia Civil called the search off on Sunday and insisted the two men last seen with Slater “don’t have any relevance” to the case.
Speaking on GB News, Laurence told Martin Daubney and Ellie Costello the British police should speak to the individuals.

“So obviously there’s an allegation that Jay [Slater] may have made an admission in terms of obtaining a Rolex watch shortly prior to his disappearance”, he said.
“He was also in the company of two individuals in Tenerife, within the Airbnb and other witnesses.

“There are lengthy interviews going on, which is what you would expect to happen.
“To be honest, I would expect that to have been going on while the search and rescue operation was underway in Tenerife.
“That clearly doesn’t seem to have been the case. There are lots of enquiries going on and obviously our thoughts are with the family at this moment. The chances of Jay being found alive are slipping alive, which is very traumatic for them.
“I would hope maybe that Tenerife authorities will reach out to British police asking for their assistance in re-interviewing those two individuals in the UK.”

One of the individuals is Ayub Qassim, who invited Slater back to his rented holiday cottage after a rave in Tenerife hours before he vanished on June 17.
He broke his silence in a Daily Mail interview by saying Slater “came to my Airbnb alive and he let my Airbnb alive”.
The 31-year-old was jailed nine years ago for drug-related offences.
In the interview, he said: “The only comment I have to make is that Jay came to the house alive, and he left the house alive.
“I let the geezer stay at mine because he had nowhere else to go, his friends had all left him.
“I know Jay, through friends, I’m not going to bring someone back to mine if I don’t know them.
“I’m doing the geezer a favour and now my face is all over the news. It’s a bit mental. I haven’t even done anything.”
