A British national has been killed in Kenya after being hit by a vehicle in the president’s motorcade.
Edgar Charles Frederick, 79, was trying to cross a busy road in Nairobi when he was knocked over by a government vehicle of President William Ruto’s motorcade.
The driver of the car has been arrested by Kenya’s National Police Service (NPS), who have confirmed they have launched an investigation into the incident.
After hitting the man, the driver failed to stop. He is expected in court later today.

Fredrick’s next-of-kin have been informed.
Video footage shows the motorcade racing down Ngog Road, with bystanders then heard screaming following the collision.
Other videos show concerned onlookers gathering around the knocked over British man.
The NPS said in a statement: “Following a road accident that occurred at Adams Arcade along Ngong Road involving a government vehicle, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian who is a foreign national, the NPS is now handling the matter and investigations have commenced.”

The spokesperson also stressed that all motorists, pedestrians and other road users must “exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents”.
Local media reports that emergency responders flocked to the scene, but the victim was sadly pronounced dead.
The man’s body was later moved to the City Mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted later today.

Police spokesman Michael Muchiri told the BBC that Frederick had been visiting Kenya to see his sister and nephew who live in the country.
He told the broadcaster that the vehicle belonged to the administration and it was providing support to the presidential detail.
The Foreign Office has been contacted for comment.
