Police are investigating a new angle in the case of a caravan which was found loaded with explosives.
For 12 days a caravan was left beside a property in Dural in northwest Sydney before a resident reported it on January 19.
An investigation revealed the explosives inside could have created a 40-metre-wide blast and police said it had the potential to become a mass casualty event targeting the Jewish community.
The latest theory is that the vehicle was ditched on the roadside and filled with mining explosives by a criminal in order to reduce their possible prison sentence, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Federal and state police have executed raids across Sydney earlier today.
More to come.
