The Kansas City Chiefs are set to welcome Clyde Edwards-Helaire back into the team on Sunday, amid his ongoing battle with severe PTSD and mental health issues.

Running back Edwards-Helaire is yet to play so far this season amid a mysterious non-footballing illness, sitting out the first three games.

A video emerged on social media earlier this week of Edwards-Helaire dancing in the locker room after practice, and the team have now confirmed the positive news that he is back available for selection.

The Chiefs were praised by players and fans last week after it emerged that they had kept the former first-round pick on the payroll during his absence, a move they didn’t have to make.

The organization’s kind gesture caught the eye of one teammate, standout defensive end Chris Jones, who took to social media to praise the Chiefs.

‘Classy move….’ Jones wrote on X as other fans flooded the comments.

‘Chiefs are always ahead of the game when it comes to how they treat their players,’ one user added.

Edwards-Helaire is entering his fifth season with the reigning Super Bowl Champions. The Chiefs selected him with the 32nd pick in 2020 and he quickly established himself as their premier running back in his rookie campaign.

Although his role has decreased in the years since, his return on Sunday comes at a great time with Isiah Pacheco out for several weeks with a broken fibula.

The running back work has been shared by Carson Steele and Samaje Perine since Pacheco’s injury, and Kareem Hunt is also set to rotate in after re-signing with his former team last week.

Despite their injury concerns, the Chiefs are 3-0 to start the year and face the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
