A five-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after a parking meter fell on top of him.

Paramedics were called to Bunbury’s CBD, south of Perth, little after 10.30am on Wednesday.

A spokesman for WorkSafe commissioner’s office confirmed a parking meter had fallen on the boy in a courtyard at the Bunbury Museum.

Three ambulance crews responded to the incident, and St John Ambulance confirmed the boy suffered critical injuries.

He was transported to Bunbury Hospital for treatment before the Royal Flying Doctors Service flew him to the Perth Children’s Hospital late on Wednesday.

The five-year-old remains there in a critical condition.

City of Bunbury chief executive Alan Ferris said the city was working with authorities to understand how the meter came to fall on the boy.
