A police officer has been shot after being called to a disturbance on a quiet suburban street in Brisbane. 

The officer attended an address at Tamar St in Annerley where an altercation then ensued at the house resulting in the officer and another man both being shot.

The incident occurred shortly after 9.10am, with the gun used after a physical fight broke out between a male constable and a man at the address.

The officer and the man have both sustained gunshot wounds and have been transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

Multiple police cars were seen parked in the street, which was sealed off as a crime scene by mid-morning on Friday. 

Residents reported hearing yelling male voices followed by more than one gunshot.

The officer had been responding to a call about a trespass, reported The Courier Mail.

The man had allegedly charged at the pair of officers who attended and grabbed one their service weapons.

The shots were then fired in the ensuing struggle. 

The matter will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
