Two of Minnesota’s hottest athletes have recreated an iconic moment in the state’s sporting history.

Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards and Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson graced the latest ESPN cover story this week to pay homage to Kevin Garnett and Randy Moss.

ESPN had been teasing the recreation for weeks and finally on Tuesday it was unveiled.

The cover shows the All-Star wideout sporting a Timberwolves jersey, while the NBA star dons the Vikings’ purple and gold.

The two athletes paid homage to Kevin Garnett (back) and Randy Moss’s (front) pose on the cover of Sport magazine back in 2000

The photo is a direct nod to legends Moss and Garnett with the pose mimicking their Sport cover from 2000.

The recreation symbolizes Jefferson and Edwards’ rise as the new faces of Minnesota sports – a generation on from Moss and Garnett.

Both duos were clearly in the early arc of their careers. Garnett was 24 years old when his picture was taken; Edwards is 23, while Moss was 23 and Jefferson is 25.

The article explores Edwards and Jefferson’s similar paths to superstar status in Minnesota. Both grew up and went to college in the southern United States before being drafted by their respective Minnesota teams in 2020.

‘They definitely had Minnesota on lock down, so, we’re the next two now,’ Jefferson said.

They’re the GOATs of Minnesota and we’re trying to be,’ Edwards added. ‘We started in the right place and we’re just trying to keep going that way. First I feel like to follow in those footsteps we’ve got to do the same thing but we’re going to be a little more swaggy.

‘I think ours is going to be little bit better, ‘ Jefferson said referring to their recreation, ‘especially the way we’re going to end our careers.’
