- Wigglesworth was approached after Red Roses’ impressive victory over Wales
- Attack coach will join Farrell’s Irish-dominated set-up with a number confirmed
England coach Richard Wigglesworth is set to join Andy Farrell’s staff for this summer’s Lions tour of Australia.
Wigglesworth was approached after England’s impressive Six Nations victory over Wales and did not hesitate to accept the call-up for the prestigious series.
While his specific role is yet to be confirmed, England’s attack coach is primed to join an Irish-dominated coaching team, with S&C coach Aled Walters and former IRFU performance director David Nucifora already confirmed.
Farrell will announce his coaching team at an event in London on Wednesday morning, with John Fogarty, Simon Easterby and Andrew Goodman also lined up.
Wigglesworth played alongside Farrell at Saracens, before being coached by him at England.
He has already received the blessing of England head coach Steve Borthwick, who said last week: ‘I’d love as many of the management team as possible to have the opportunity. That Lions experience I had in 2017 was one of the best, if not the best, experience I’ve had in my life.
‘Working with the best players from four different countries, working with incredible coaches against top-class opposition. I developed and learned so much as a coach in that period, it was brilliant for me and accelerated my coaching, so I’d love as many other people from the England group to be in there as possible, and I’ll be fully supportive of them all.’
