Because scalp health greatly influences the overall condition of hair, some experts argue it should be a priority in hair care.

One hair care enthusiast who struggled to see results for a year has claimed apple cider vinegar made all the difference.

Isabella Dermarko told her viewers in a recent clip: “I am on a hair journey. It has been four months now since I got my bad haircut.

“On that day I decided I was going to restart my journey to waist-length hair and see how long it would take me to grow out the bad haircut.”

“I didn’t want the thin and wispy waist-length hair that I had in 2016, I wanted thick, luscious and healthy hair.”

Throughout her journey, Isabella has made YouTube clips to share what is working and what’s not worth it with viewers.

Among the many ingredients she has used to promote hair growth, apple cider vinegar stood out.

Apple cider vinegar has been touted as a popular at-home remedy known for its cleansing, clarifying and shine-boosting properties.

“I’ve been using apple cider vinegar about once a month,” she said, adding that “cloudy apple cider vinegar is better”.

“You can get it fairly cheap, you don’t have to use an expensive one.”

One way it may support scalp health is by balancing the scalp’s pH level, which should be between four and five for healthy hair.

Since commercial shampoos often disrupt the scalp’s pH balance, corrective interventions like vinegar rinses can prove necessary.

But while several health and beauty blogs highlight the benefits of apple cider vinegar rinses for hair growth, very little research has been published on this topic.

Build-up left behind by styling products or shampoo can cause hair loss

Experts from the UK’s hair loss treatment specialists at the Belgravia Centre noted: “No matter what you do with it, apple cider vinegar will not cure or treat hair loss.

“The reason it is often linked with hair care is that it is an ancient remedy for making hair shine and treating dandruff that is said to have been favoured by the Romans.

“The only real benefit we are aware of is that apple cider vinegar can be a good clarifying hair rinse as it helps to remove all traces of product buildup on your scalp.

“Build-up left behind by styling products or shampoo can clog the follicles leading to scalp conditions such as dandruff and – in extreme cases – hair loss.”
