Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden gave a candid and heartfelt update about her hopes of becoming a mum as she approaches the two-year anniversary of her cancer diagnosis.

The Welsh choreographer, 34, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and opted not to take part in that year’s series of the beloved BBC dance show. Last February, she revealed in an emotional post she now has “no evidence of disease”.

Amid her gruelling treatment, Dowden was placed in a medically-induced menopause, freezing her eggs before she underwent chemotherapy.

The dancer was able to take part in last year’s Strictly, with her co-stars delighted to see her back on the dancefloor and Dowden herself overjoyed by her comeback.

Sadly though, she was forced to pull out of the competition early on medical advice following an injury, meaning her partner, JLS star JB Gill, had to continue competing with Dowden’s co-star, Lauren Oakley.

The pair made it to the final and dedicated their victory to Dowden, who had been heartbroken at having to miss another series of the show.

Now, Dowden has shared a fresh update after a difficult year, opening up on her plans to hopefully “be someone’s mum” one day.

Appearing on ITV’s Loose Women, she shared when asked about motherhood: “So at the moment it would be too soon.

“I had a hormone-fed cancer, so I have been put into early menopause and it would be too dangerous now to consider it.

“But I really want to be a mum, I’ve always wanted to be a mum. We do have five embryos, and I hope one day, if it’s safe to do so, I do get the privilege and honour to be someone’s mum.”

The dancer was diagnosed with cancer shortly after marrying her husband, Ben Jones.

She has opened up in the past about how she discovered a lump in her breast just a day before jetting off on her honeymoon to the Maldives.

The welcome news from a year ago that Dowden was now showing “no evidence of disease,” is something she branded her “biggest accomplishment so far”.

She went on to explain she wouldn’t receive the all-clear for five years due to the nature of her illness.

The determined dancer still faces a number of health issues, having recently reflected on the excruciating pain she endures thanks to Crohn’s disease, something she shared insight on prior to her cancer diagnosis.

Speaking on Aimee Fuller’s Monday Mile podcast last month, the dancer detailed how the condition can lead to her losing consciousness multiple times.

“Which if you think, a woman is designed for childbirth, you don’t pass out during childbirth, I can have four to five black outs, because the pain is that much that my body can’t control it,” she told the podcast in a candid revelation.
