Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has spoken out about the future of the James Bond franchise following Amazon MGM Studios’ takeover of creative control.

The chief executive addressed speculation about what’s next for 007 in a recent interview and delivered a candid update on the progress of the hotly anticipated next film.

“We don’t have a plan yet on what the next theme is going to be,” he told CNBC.

“Nobody’s written the story yet,” Jassy said. “But we will take great care. It’s an amazing franchise that we care a lot about and that we expect to develop over a long period of time.”

During the interview, which focused on new AI features for Amazon’s Alexa, Jassy dismissed concerns about artificial intelligence writing future Bond films.

“First of all, I don’t believe that AI is going to write a Bond movie any time soon,” he assured fans.

Jassy emphasised Amazon’s commitment to the franchise’s legacy.

“We’re incredibly honoured to have the ability to help shepherd the Bond franchise for the next generation,” he said.

He added that Amazon MGM Studios has “amazing filmmakers” to guide the iconic series forward.

The streaming giant has held the distribution rights to the Bond series since 2022.

However, they now hold have the freedom to do what they like with the franchise – which has worried some fans.

Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said they were “honoured to continue this treasured heritage” and looked forward to “ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007”.

Wilson, who has been involved with 007 for nearly 60 years, added: “With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects.”

Broccoli reflected: “My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father.”

Eon Productions posted a lengthy statement on their Instagram account to announce the news and penned at the end of the caption: “Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.”
