Amanda Holden issued an update on Jamie Theakston’s ongoing battle with Laryngeal Cancer and commented on whether he would be returning to work.

Theakston revealed the news of his cancer diagnosis on his Instagram account and penned in a statement: “Hi Folks, As you know – I recently had an operation to remove a lesion from my vocal cords.

“So…I have cancer… but cancer doesn’t have me! The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back in October.

“Until then, I’ve been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the most capable hands of JK and Amanda.

“Huge thanks to them and all the Global Family who have been unbelievably supportive. Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I’ll have a great story to tell… Jamie x.”

The radio star admitted that he went and got himself checked out by a doctor after some listeners had noticed something wasn’t quite right with his voice.

Since his diagnosis, Theakston has been taking some time off from his radio show with Holden – who today issued an update on the star.

The 53-year-old discussed the whopping 250-mile charity bike ride she is undertaking for Global’s Make Some Noise charity.

She began: “The good news with Jamie is [the cancer] was stage one and he’s going to be absolutely fine!”

Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid asked: “I imagine you’d be thinking about your co-host Jamie Theakston – he’s going through his own challenge at the moment, he was diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer.

“I’m sure he’s supporting you. Is he going to be back working with you this month, as he had hoped to?”

Reassuring fans that Theakston would be “fine”, Holden added: “I think the biggest challenge he faces now is with a voice and a speech therapist to get his voice back.

“We are keeping everything crossed that he’ll be with us at least in November, I reckon, or for Christmas.”

She went on to playfully rib Theakston on air about never having taken part in the gruelling challenges that she often undertakes for charity.

Referring to her bike ride, she quipped: “He always used to sit in the studio doing none of this, so now he’s sat at home doing none of this! We miss him so much.”

Theakston had previously announced plans for surgery on his vocal cords to remove a lesion.
