Aldi has launched a sparkling twist on Portuguese green wine with its new Mimo Moutinho Vinho Verde, available at £6.99.

The supermarket chain’s latest offering aims to add sparkle to the growing green wine trend, bringing a fresh take on a Portuguese favourite.

The new wine has received approval from wine expert, Sam Caporn, who has praised its unique combination of fruity and sparkling characteristics.

The term “green wine” originates from both the wine’s youthful, fruity character and the landscape of Portugal’s Minho region in the northeast.

The cooler climate of Minho contributes to the wine’s profile.

The wine is crafted from indigenous Portuguese white grape varieties, resulting in a complex flavour profile.

Sam described the wine as: “The perfect hybrid between a fruity wine and a fizz, with notes of apricot, peach, nectarine, and mango.”

The wine aims to offer a lighter alternative to traditional sparkling wines, featuring zesty lime and crisp green apple notes.

The expert added: “The wine offers fresh flavours similar to that of Prosecco but more so, it offers a unique and exciting twist on a beloved Portuguese classic.”

Aldi has also announced the return of its Specially Selected Sparkling Ribolla Gialla, priced at £6.99 per 75cl bottle.

Sam described the returning wine as “sipping on sunshine.”

Both the Mimo Moutinho Vinho Verde and the Specially Selected Sparkling Ribolla Gialla are now available in Aldi stores nationwide.
