• Adrian Lewis has announced he will return to darts after nearly two years out
  • The 40-year-old is two-time PDC world champion, with wins in 2011 and 2012

Former two-time world darts champion Adrian Lewis has announced he will will be returning to competition later this year.

The 40-year-old, nicknamed ‘Jackpot’,  was a perennial contender in the PDC after defeating Gary Anderson to win the 2011 PDC World Championship.

He repeated the feat the following year with a dominant win over Andy Hamilton, becoming just the third player at that time to have successfully defended their first title.

Lewis remained a mainstay of the darts scene in the years that followed, but was unable to replicate his success at the Alexandra Palace, reaching the final of the 2016 world championship before being defeated by Anderson.

In April of 2023 Lewis announced that he would be going on an indefinite from the sport, noting that he needed a break from competition after more than 20 years on the circuit.

The inactivity led to Lewis losing his tour card at the end of last year as he had been taking care of his ill wife Sarah.

The two-time world champion revealed he is set to compete at the Modus Super Series in May

The 40-year-old surrendered his PDC tour card after falling out of the top 64 due to inactivity

However, on Tuesday he revealed that he would be returning at the upcoming Modus Super Series competition.

In a post to the competition’s X account, the Stoke native detailed his plans and revealed he is excited to get back to the oche.

He said: ‘Hello, I’m Adrian Lewis, two-time back-to-back PDC and BDO darts champion.

‘I am looking forward to playing in the Modus Super Series sometime in May, so stay tuned.’

Despite being one of the most popular players in the sport, Lewis will need to go through the PDC’s Qualifying School in order to regain his tour card.

Last month he told The Sun that he is eyeing a 2026 return: ‘I’ve not gone to Q School this January. I’m writing that off. I’m hoping the following year.

‘I want to enjoy the game again. I can’t go in half-hearted, I need to go in there 100 per cent.

‘Full heart and soul into it. That would be the way back. Will that mean I’ll get the motivation back? I am hoping so.
