Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has an eight-figure release clause in his contract, according to reports.
Kane, 31, left his boyhood club Tottenham in 2023 to join the Bundesliga giants, seemingly ending his chances of surpassing Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260 goals.
However, it has now been revealed that the transfer included a release clause within the deal that could open the door for a return to England.
As reported by Bild, the England captain could have triggered a release clause in the winter transfer window that would have allowed him to leave the club for around €80m (£67m).
That deadline has now passed, but the release clause will be valid again next winter, and if he were to trigger it he could move to another club for just €65m (£54m).
It is understood that Kane – who is contracted to Bayern until June 2027 – is currently happy in Germany. He is thriving on the pitch and has settled in the country with his young family.

He has scored 70 goals in 72 appearances for Bayern, and became the fastest player to reach 50 Bundesliga goals in November, smashing the previous record held by Erling Haaland.
He is likely to have his eyes set on breaking more records, and after opting not to trigger his release clause this time around, it now appears almost certain that he will remain at Bayern for at least another 12 months.
But a return to England could be tempting in 2026, with Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record within reach.
Kane currently has 213 Premier League goals to his name, putting him 47 behind Shearer in second place.
A transfer to the US could also appeal, with Kane making no secret of his admiration for American sports, including NFL.
He will turn 32 in July, and it is believed that Bayern are already looking for a long-term successor should he decide to move on.
According to Bild, club chiefs have already held discussions over potentially pursuing RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko or Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Both players would cost in the region of €70m (£58m), but would demand significantly lower wages than Kane, who currently earns approximately €25m-a-year (£21m).
