Tommy Fury has finally detailed the reasons why he and fiancee Molly-Mae Hague split.
In an emotional interview with Men’s Health conveniently timed days before Molly-Maey’s much anticipated documentary is released, he became dependant on alcohol following a boxing injury and admitted his mental health was ‘in the pan’.
Amid rumours that their August 2024 break up was a publicity stunt, Tommy spoke candidly about his mental health battle and insisted he has never cheated on Molly-Mae calling rumours about other women complete and utter b***ocks.’
‘The reason why me and Molly broke up was because I got addicted to alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore,’ he confessed.
‘It kills me to say it, [but] it’s true, I couldn’t. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink, and it is what it is. People go through different things in life and we all have our crosses to bear. I’ve got mine to bear.’
Tommy explained how his problems started when he underwent reconstructive surgery in January 2024, after snapping all the ligaments in his hand in 2019.

He stated that his ‘mental health was in the pan’ during his recovery from surgery, which came off the back of ‘the best year I’ve ever had’ in 2023 which saw both his career and life with Molly flourish.
The pair, who were the runners-up on reality TV show Love Island season five in 2019, got engaged in 2023, months after welcoming their daughter Bambi.
Explaining how a large part of his identity was snatched away from him when he could no longer train, Tommy said his diet and fitness were the first things he let slip before he turned to alcohol.
‘I’ve only lived for training and my family, and that was all snatched away from me. So what I did for fun is I started to drink quite a lot. I found that’s what made me feel better,’ he said, adding: ‘I wanted the endorphins that I’d get when I’d finish a good session, when I’d finish sparring, when I’d finish fighting.’
Admitting that he would go out most nights and drink to ‘get black-out drunk’, he said he replaced his intense training camp schedule by ‘smashing Guinness left and centre and then later on in the night shots would come out’.
Tommy’s relationship soon began to suffer but he has insisted that he never cheated on Molly and also maintained his close bond with his daughter Bambi during the dark period.
Throughout last year, Tommy was pictured on rowdy nights out with his mates, including a weekend in Budapest where he was pictured with former Miss Hungary.
He was also snapped at an event at the Hungary Opera House with another brunette woman during the same boozy trip. The trip is said to have contributed to their split.
‘Cheating was never a thing,’ Tommy insisted. ‘You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing. You need to get a grip of it.’
‘If you’re in the same spot as me, where you just think that it’s going to cure all your problems, it doesn’t. You wake up even worse and you want to drink more to try and feel happy again. That’s the cycle of it.’

Molly is on a publicity blitz for the release of her anticipated Prime documentary this week, in which she will give her side of the split
Molly-Mae, who was filmed kissing her ex on New Year’s Eve, is now said to be considering what Tommy would have to do to make their relationship work.
The mother’s set of stipulations are said to include a party ban and pitching in more with family life instead of focusing on his boxing matches.
Molly-Mae announced her shock split from Tommy, also 25, in August five years after they met on ITV reality dating show, Love Island.
But according to pals, Molly-Mae has ‘never stopped loving’ Tommy and is mulling over a way forward with the professional sportsman romantically.
It has been claimed that Molly-Mae and Tommy’s reunion will be a focus in her new Prime TV show, Behind it All, which will also document their emotional break-up.
The first three episodes of the show will launch exclusively on Prime Video globally on 17 January and the latter three episodes will drop in Spring 2025.
Molly is on a publicity blitz for the show this week, amid claims that she and Tommy have enjoyed a series of secret dates.
Their romantic reunion is set to feature in the show as they continue to film new scenes for the next batch of episodes, due to be released in Spring.

The Love Island stars have faced backlash as their split was branded a ‘publicity stunt’ by fans.
A TV insider has said Molly and Tommy’s rocky relationship is set to ‘come full circle’ during the series which could prompt even more fans to tune in.
A source told The Sun: ‘The timing of them getting back together couldn’t be more convenient, as it will see their romance come full circle with fans watching on through the documentary.
‘There was already huge interest in the programme, even before the events of the past week. But now there’s likely to be even more people watching.
‘The trailer seemed to suggest there will be lots of detail about the stress Molly went through during their high-profile break up, but there was no hint of them getting back together.

‘Which means the creators of the documentary – which is still being filmed – were either taken by surprise by the reunion or have had to keep it top secret for some time.’
Fans of Molly-Mae have been quick to brand the breakup a ‘PR tool’ claiming the ‘stunt’ helped further Tommy’s book and documentary as well as Molly-Mae’s clothing line.
MailOnline has contacted Molly-Mae’s representative who has declined to comment.
